One of my most favourite onsen areas in Japan to date - Japanese setting throughout the area yet not look old and eerie. My friend and I was super excited peering out the window of our ryokan's shuttle car as we were arriving in the Kurokawa onsen. Cute little ceramic & gift shops, bakery and specialty food shops, all neatly packaged in between the ryokans. Great photo spots to play with. We stayed at the 新明館 (Shinmeikan) ryokan which was in the best location. Would definitely want to visit Kurokawa Oonsen again but might try out one of the other ryokans next time.
